About the Wedding Service All that has happened in my life has brought me to this moment. If you already have your
license, a simple ceremony may be scheduled on short notice. Why Choose a Wedding Minister?
Your marriage can be as simple as standing before the minister and exchanging vows with two witnesses; or, you can be married in a public or private park setting, your own special place or restaurant. Some churches will rent their chapel. You can have your wedding in any reasonable space. When it comes to wedding ceremonies and vows, there are many alternatives. The most common is the English Book of Common Prayer ceremony. That is the one which includes the vow “_(Bride)__, will you have this man to be your husband; to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?” You can choose from many different services available on the web, or consult with the minister to write your own service. If you do not specify a service, we can adapt the traditional service and vows to reflect your ideas shared in consultation. Here are some examples of alternative vows: A Sample Buddhist Vow: ________ and ________, do you pledge to help each other to develop your hearts and minds, cultivating compassion, generosity, ethics, patience, enthusiasm, concentration and wisdom as you age and undergo the various ups and downs of life and to transform them into the path of love, compassion, joy and equanimity? Details In a Hindu wedding the couple makes seven vows including a prayer for self-control of the mind, body and soul and longevity of their marital relationship. Details An American Indian wedding may include the rite of seven steps, each including a vow by the couple and culminating in a blessing, “Husband” the Creator blesses you. May I fill your heart with great joy and peace. I promise that I will always be with you. Details A Baha'i wedding can be very simple but must include three important elements: Consent of the couple’s parents; a one-sentence vow, “We will all, verily, abide by the Will of God.” (This simple vow encompasses all others because to live by God’s Will includes cultivating such virtues as honor, love, and fidelity.); and two witnesses to the marriage vow. Details One popular modern tradition is the Unity Sand Ceremony where the bride and groom each pour sand from their vase into a common vase while the celebrant recites: "Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand, one representing the BRIDE, and the other representing the GROOM." (This ceremony is usually reserved for outdoor weddings.) Details About the Minister Gary Ray Prichard is an Ordained Minister of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He welcomes people of all faiths, races and ethnic backgrounds. He has served as pastor of Christian Churches in Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois. Before retiring, Gary was the minister of Irving Park Christian Church in Chicago, IL, for nearly fifteen years. He is a founding member of the United Religions Initiative (URI) of Henderson County NC and the Interfaith Ministerial Association of Henderson County. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Divinity degree from Lexington Theological Seminary. Preparing for Your Wedding Whether it is your first marriage or otherwise, Gary will accommodate partners of different faiths, different races or ethnic backgrounds, and those who have been previously divorced or widowed. You may include children, family, friends, music, special themes, readings and different cultural traditions. All faiths, cultures, lifestyles, beliefs and traditions are welcomed and honored and can be woven into your ceremony as you wish. If you decide you want Gary to officiate at your wedding, arrangements can be made in person at Gary's residence, 324 Katie Drive, Hendersonville NC, or by email or telephone. When you decide you want Gary to officiate at your service and you wish to schedule a date for your marriage there is a $100 deposit. The total cost for the minister's service will depend on travel and time required, whether or not there is a rehearsal, etc. If you decide to schedule additional consultations to discuss your special situation, hopes and dreams, hesitations or fears, Gary is available for private counseling with the groom, the bride and/or the couple or family members. The charge for additional consultation is $50 per hour. If you need assistance in planning for the wedding event, reception, etc., Gary will be happy to refer you to a local wedding planner.
